Visuals and their definitions

What are Dailies and Rushes?

Dailies are unedited videos, also known as raw footage. Every time you record something to film.

Dailies make clips/scenes also known as Rushes.

What are cutaways?

Cutaway shots are mostly images that focus on an object's presence within an environment. This could have nothing to do with the story but it helps flesh out the world that the story is telling as well as padding out elements that may have been missed.

A-roll is footage used from camera A that is used to film primary footage, A roll mostly consists of action and dialogue segments of the production.

B-roll footage from camera B is used for secondary footage such as cutaways as an alternative angle of a subject filmed by the main camera.

Colour grading is a post production process where the tones and brightness of a scene or shot is changed.

Rough cut - The first edit you make to show a rough demonstration on the footage being put together to create a story. Quick small adjustments made to the Dailies so that the film crew and director has an idea how the final product will look and sound like.

Rule of thirds - is an imaginary grid that is often used to position the main subject on camera. This is a great way for focusing on an object or person and at the same time showing the background or the environment. This technique can help world building and expand the story line for the viewers. It's also great for cinematography, creating an amazing shot that is nice to look at.
